Performance Art

Here's a photo of the  painting demonstration from last nights Art Crawl.  I wanted to thank all those who attended.  Having an audience watch as you paint is something that I've grown to enjoy.  It seems that the process of observing an artist in the production of their craft allows you to connect the visible results to the heart and soul of the person.  I guess from my childhood days of watching Gene London tell a story as he drew the tale's character's on TV, through the old days in New Hope, PA where artist's would be working their craft in real time, this idea of a blank slate, or formless clay, could be transformed before one's eye's, has had a tremendous impact on me.  As I've matured in my thinking and learned from God's Word, the visible manifestations have only a partial relevance to the physical acts of shaping or molding.   Unknowing for most, all of us, we are engaged moment by moment in the production of our "life" and the realities with which we are surrounded.  We've come to believe that what we see has been the result of the seen acts.  We are informed however in the book of Hebrews that things are seen were not made of things which do appear".  God gives us the picture of the goings on behind the "seen".  Life for me has become an exciting witness to demonstration of the Master Artists matchless strokes.  Day by day I see that words He built "Life" with, are coming into concrete form by the words we believe and confess.

Crawling to the Crawl

Probably should be sawing Z's instead of sitting at this computer at this late hour, but I felt the need to announce that I will be part of the St. Paul Art Crawl tomorrow.  Actually I will be doing a demonstration of my painting technique during the event.  This performance will cap a full day of teaching.  I thought you might enjoy a photo of a work under progress....similar to what I will be painting tomorrow.  Since this painting will be the last in a succession of works, I anticipate that the work should be loose, "impressionistic", the term you're allowed to use when details are, shall we say, "suggested" instead of fully stated.  Anyway, come by, say "hello" .  Oh, and bring me a coffee, cream no sugar...thanks.

He Is Risen

I was digging in my garden today...yeah I know that its really early, especially in Minnesota, but I just couldn't resist.  I was uncovering the mulched plants and sure enough, there it was, life, poking its way through the ground.  I am always always amazed to find that these fragile plants somehow make it through to the next season.  Its just the way it is.  Put the thing in the ground, cover it up, and somehow...BAM

He is risen means a lot to this guy.  This world's got its problems to be sure, in fact we all do.  But they put Him in the ground, covered him up, and somehow...BAM.  Right now, He lives, and I live in Him!  Its a great day!

I got out with a few new friends to paint, it was wonderful.  The blue note of the water is a joy to paint knowing that as the algae blooms over the course of the next few weeks, that brilliant note will shift to yellow green.   Always changing, life is.  Todays message hasn't changed, believed ...BAM...some brilliant tomorrows.

Before and After

Its funny, but I just read the title to my most recent post-March Forth- and I gulped!  Its been that long ago and I haven't marched forth at all!  Kinda went dead stop, especially with this blog.  Why is that?  I don't think I'm alone.  Seems to me other artists lose air in the sails.  As a matter of fact ICorinthians 10:13 states that there hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man...To be sure there are alot of distractions and I kept busy, but I lost focus.  But I'm back!  Back to say that all of us got stuff....common to man.  Stuff that gets in the way of our focus, assuming you have one...focus that is.  None of us have unique stuff.  These times are not new, they are repackaged and wrapped to make us think that we got serious new stuff.  Nope!  These temptations are common to man.  We're in this together, where are you looking for answers?

I'm getting ready for a show, so I'm completing some unfinished work.  Thought I might show a before and after.  Well I just gulped again, but this may help keep the wind at my back.  Talk with you, soon!
